First Day of Filming
Great times!! We’ve just finished our first day of shooting at Wollaton Park in Nottingham. It was covered in snow and the shots looked great. We had to cut it short due to the sleet and snow which wouldn’t let up, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.
We got some really nice footage which will definitely be used and managed to get one scene ticked off the list.
As we had the snow we thought we’d do some promo shots with Katie (The Wraith). The costume and make-up dept. did us proud!!
Location photos
We’ve confirmed the location for the shoot this weekend. Wollaton Park in Nottingham is perfect. It’s a huge park with a secluded little deciduous wood next to a bushy evergreen wood – two or three great locations right next to each other!
It’s covered in snow at the moment so it’ll be great for some of the shots we need. It’s got a really erie vibe to it. It’s really cold though so I don’t envy our Katie walking around in bare feet!
Concept Sketches
Found some of our original concept sketches that we made back in 2005. These show the shrine which at the time was based on our cellar. There are also a couple of shot ideas. I’m thinking it might’ve turned into some sort of storyboard had it continued.
“Frozen Britain” – Perfect shooting conditions!!
Looks like perfect shooting conditions to me! Let’s do it!
Half of the script calls for a “Winter Garden” so all being well we’re going to make the most of it. First day of shooting this weekend. Better pack the thermos (and the A-Line flares with pockets in the knees)!
Puppet Designs
Back in 2005 art director Amy Nicholson started the goblin designs and made a series of puppets, each with their own personalities. Here’s a few test photos we took recently.
Inspiration
How’s this for a bit of inspiration!?
A great item I picked up in China last summer. They sell these all over the place. We got this from a market along the Yangtze River. Not sure if it’s a real butterfly. Probably knowing the Chinese!
As the main character collects insects I’m sure it’ll make an appearance in the film.
A brief introduction
Back in 2005 me and my partner Amy decided to write a screenplay. Inspired by film-makers like Jim Henson, Tim Burton and Guillermo del Toro we set to work on a short film script.
However, it wasn’t quite as easy as you might think. We had loads of ideas but we needed a method to control the madness. So having come from a theatre & drama background Amy suggested a kind of “stream of consciousness” to get the ball rolling. So we got out the pens and paper and wrote whatever came to mind without any breaks. Then from that we crossed out words we didn’t like and merged our findings into phrases and paragraphs.
Almost instantly we found that we had a story, albeit a fairly abstract one. So we developed the idea and finally came up with the idea of this young woman trapped in some sort of limbo. I got on and wrote a rough script and we got into the realms of pre-production when life took over and the script got buried amongst the bills and sheet music.
An eventful 4 years passed and the script reared its ugly head again. After a few modifications it’s all back on again. We are making the film! This website is here to tell the story – from script to screen.
We are in pre-production at the moment – sourcing props, costumes; finding locations and actors; making puppets and prosthetics. It is my intention to keep a record of the entire production process to act not only as a record but as a press resource and any other kind of resource and inspiration to other film-makers who just want to make films that they want to make.
